December Festival and Events in the Valley

The weather in Phoenix and Scottsdale is absolutely glorious in December, usually staying in the 60s and 70s. In the desert nightime it might get a bit more little chilly, but temperatures very rarely dip below freezing. These wonderful winter weather is one of the many great benefits of living in Phoenix! This sets up the ideal backdrop to enjoy many outdoor holiday events. Grab your family, make plans with your friends and take the opportunity to enjoy as many of these as you can.

Las Noches de Las Luminarias

On select dates, in November and December it is possible to see thousands of twinkling lights and luminaria bags shining bright throughout the Desert Botanical Garden. The dates and times to view this magical presentation are:

  • Friday and Saturday, Nov. 24-25
  • Friday through Sunday, Dec. 8-10
  • Friday through Sunday, Dec. 15-17
  • Tuesday through Saturday, Dec. 19-23
  • Tuesday through Saturday, Dec. 26-30

The times are from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with an admission fee of $30 for adults; $12.50 for children, ages 3-12; and children under 3 are admitted free. This is a total of 21 evenings full of dazzling lights and unique entertainment, including local favorite, Simply Three. Stroll along each garden path with a cup of cocoa or cider in hand as you admire all the Desert Botanical Garden has to offer this holiday season.

Tempe Fall Festival of the Arts

This festival is a huge collection of over 400 artist booths and includes live street performances, as well as food and drink refreshments along Mill Avenue. This event runs for three days only, so be sure to make plans to be there and not miss a moment of the activities. CitySkate Holiday Ice Rink

With the holidays comes an opportunity to ice skate on Central Avenue in Phoenix. From November 25 through January 2, Downtown Phoenix transforms Central Avenue into a real ice rink, complete with a huge holiday tree and myriads of lights set a-twinkling. Santa will even be visiting on select days.

Holiday Pet Festival

This is the largest holiday pet event in Arizona and it has more rescue agencies involved than any other animal adoption event in the state. Shopping opportunities abound for visitors and their furry best friends, searching for the latest trends in pet services, products, and foods. A dog fashion show, pet talent contest, and on-stage entertainment are among other activities. Pets can also have their picture taken with Santa.
